What is Pilates Reformer training?

The unique Pilates Reformer adds resistance to traditional Pilates exercises and sculpts a long and lean, toned, physique. One can work the abdominals and the upper body at the same time, making it a very effective and efficient form of exercise. Beginner level students will enjoy the support that the Pilates Reformer provides, while Intermediate/Advanced students will enjoy the added resistance and challenge that the Reformer provides. Flourish Pilates TM offers private reformer sessions which focus on proper technique, specially tailored to your posture and fitness level.

What is the difference between Pilates Mat exercises and Pilates Reformer exercises?

Most Pilates exercises performed on the mat are different than Pilates exercises performed on the Reformer. They have different names and work different muscles. The Pilates mat primarily focuses on the core while the Pilates Reformer works the core and other major muscles groups at the same time. For example, on the Pilates Reformer one can work the abs, triceps, back, and gluts all at the same time, against resistance, making it a very efficient and effective form of exercise. The Pilates Reformer uses springs to add resistance to exercises, so it provides a great challenge to a seasoned athlete. At the same time, the Pilates Reformer is also especially helpful for first-time Pilates students because the machine supports your movements and body weight through springs, while your arms and legs are supported by straps. This support makes it easier to do Pilates movements correctly.

What is the difference between Pilates Reformer exercises and weight training?

In Pilates you strengthen and stretch various muscle groups at the same time. This is why Pilates helps people achieve long and lean muscles. Moreover, when compared to a weight training machine Pilates exercises utilize more muscles for each exercise and provide a greater range of motion which helps increase flexibility.
